May 2018  - WIdget’s Warblings

These are the events read out at the beginning of each monthly meeting.  Further details on these can be found on our events table.

May Meeting

We have a misprint in our program – May should read the 9th not the 19th. We have our next monthly meeting this Wednesday 9 May 2018 - this is a very special event as it is our 4th Birthday party! We have a very special evening planned. There’s a lovely spring gift for all of our members to collect at the meeting. We’ve a surprise activity planned where you’ll make something gorgeous to take home with you. The cost to members is nothing and it’s £10 for guests if they’d like to make something too – unless they join us on the night, of course. We’d welcome extra cake to help us celebrate.

It’s Quiz time again! For those of you who are new to WI, the Federation Quiz is an annual event, which starts with the first rounds held in the Groups, between 7 May and 13 July 2018. These rounds are self financing and the Group or participating WIs must cover the costs. If your team is lucky enough to win the Group round, then you will progress to the final, which will be held on Friday 12 October 2018 at the Pavilion-on-the-Park, 1 Kingfisher Road, Eastleigh, SO50 9LH. There will be monetary prizes of £70, £40 and £20 for the three winning teams in the final. The questions for the Group rounds will be sent out by the end of April. The Group rounds should take around two hours to complete and all answers written as a combined team effort and the results sent to WI House, Eastleigh. This is on Monday 25th June.

Closing date for entries is Friday 13 April 2018. This event is open to members only. Entries received by Friday 13 April will cost £13 per WI for a team of 5 members. Late applications received after 13 April will cost £15.

Dabble day: is being held on the 15th July at Crookham Village Hall to celebrate 100 years of the Hampshire WI, this will be organised by the Hart group of WI’s.(When July comes around we will be the organisers for the Hart group.) As the name suggests you will have a chance to Dabble in different crafts. Plus the Allotment challenge (see below). Also anyone who loves to make chutneys /Jams. There will be a competition for the best chutneys & Jams. The recipe doesn’t have to be a WI recipe. Also there will be another competition for a Victoria Sandwich which you will have to use the WI recipe for. We will hand the recipe out at a later date.
