Crochet with Lindsey Wray

As we were still all feeding crafty following our visit from Neil of the Great British Sewing Bee in August, at our September meeting we learned about crochet.  The beginners managed a chain and the more advanced made a full poppy.  It was a great opportunity for a natter and to meet all of our our lovely new members who’ve joined in the last two months.

If you’d like to have a go on your own, the poppy pattern Lindsey Wray gave us was:

1. Make a magic loop

2. ch1, 10dc into the ring

3. 2dc into each dc

4. ch3 (2dtr into next stitch, 1 str into next stitch) x 3, 2dtr into next stitch, 3ch, sl st into next st

5. ch2, tr in same stitch, (1dtr into next stitch, 2dtr into next stitch) x 5, tr into next stitch, ch2, sl st in the same stitch

Fasten off and wave in ends, stitch a black button in the centre.

ch = chain, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet, str = double treble crochet, sl st = slit stitch

And if you’re having problems remembering what the stitches are, this site looks helpful https://www.anniescatalog.com/crochet/content.html?scat_id=368&c=0

Finally, the quotes from Mandy in tonight’s Widget’s Warblings

Crocheting keeps me from unravelling …..

I crochet so I do not kill people…..

Sometimes your heart speaks best through your hands and ….

People who think chocolate is addictive have obviously never tried to crochet
